Heres a tutorial I made to get both the iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE & iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.
1. Open your TEMP folder
1a. Windows - Press Start on your taskbar, and search for %TEMP% and hit ENTER on your keyboard. A folder should open.
1b. Mac - /Users/your username/Library/Caches/Cleanup At Startup
Change your username, with your username.
2. Now that you have your folder open, place it to your right side of the screen and make it so the order is by "DATE MODIFIED". BUT make sure that the oldest is first NOT the newest. - Why? Because it also orders it by file type, and since we are looking for a folder you wont see it unless you put the oldest first then it shows it by folder type. Also stretch the folder so it coves the entire height of your monitor that way you'll be able to see more. Folders should now be showing first in your TEMP folder and date modified from oldest to newest. Look down until you see the newest folder you have, should be something like 7/1/2009. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THAT AREA
3. Ok, get ready to restore in DFU mode. (That's the way I did it, you can try without DFU mode but that's the way I got both files). If you dont know how to go into DFU mode then here's a mini tutorial
***DFU MODE TUTORIAL***
1. Hold both your Home button, and your Power/Sleep/Wake button for ten seconds. (0...1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...)
2. RELEASE THE POWER/SLEEP/WAKE button but hold your HOME button until your computer recognizes a new Drive.
3. You can now release your home button, if your screen is completely BLACK then you are in DFU mode. If not, you have to restart.

4. In iTunes press "Restore", but before you hit that make sure iTunes is not covering your folder, you cant minimize iTunes once the restore starts. (Unless you hit "Show Desktop" on Windows, but as soon as you maximize another window so will iTunes).
5. Remember that spot I told you to watch in your folder, well keep your eye on it. A folder will pop up saying PerXXXX.temp. Of course the "XXXX" are random 4 letters/numbers. QUICKLY hit CTRL + C (Windows) or Command + C (Mac) to copy that folder, click on your desktop and do CTRL + V (Windows) Command + V (Mac) to paste the folder on your desktop.
5a. Mac try finding one called: iPhone Temporary Files.noindex
6. In your TEMP folder the PerXXXX.temp will dissapear after a couple seconds and a new one will pop up, copy that one over to your desktop too.
7. Repeat 6 until you have 3 folders (Thats how many I got, seems to be how many pop up). If more keep coming paste those aswell.
8. Once restore is complete you can restore your iPhone to its backup (If you have one) - you dont need to copy any folders on this restore.
9. Open your PerXXXX.tmp folders and you should get someting similar to these:
1st Folder I got:
Size : 206 KB (211,690 bytes)
Size on Disk: 216 KB (221,184 bytes)
4 Folders
4 Files
Structure:
Inside PerXXXX.tmp I had:
Firmware(Sub-Folder)
Restore.plist(File)
Inside Firmware I had:
all_flash(Sub-Folder)
dfu(Sub-Folder)
Inside all_flash I had:
all_flash.n88ap.production(Sub-Folder)
Inside all_flash.n88ap.production I had:
manifest(File)
Inside dfu(folder inside Firmware) I had:
iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu
iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu
2nd Folder I got:
Size : 16.8 MB (17,634,869 bytes)
Size on Disk: 16.8 MB (17,649,664 bytes)
4 Folders

Structure:

Hi, i wrote a small shell script for MacOS which should do the job well - it checks every second and backups if there are (new) files...just have a look at it ;)

ReplyDeletevery nice, easy to understand and exactly what happened. I guess its also important to say you only need to do DFU mode because it gets you both ibec and ibss (so people don't try restore mode first, then have to do DFU)

I typed /tmp in the finder and waited for the folders to appear ... nothing pops up during the whole restore process ? :-(
